Married on Mohonk Mountain
Hudson Valley, NY
The Mohonk Mountain House wedding was the third destination wedding for me this year. It is a grand resort like no other. Especially for a photographer excited to capture incredible beauty at every turn! It is hard to describe the location but I will give it a try. First of all, it is a national historic landmark that is 150 years old. Five U.S. presidents have stayed at this family owned hotel. The mountain house was built around a glacier lake. It is so peaceful and tranquil that you never want to leave. It’s a 5-star Victorian castle that us surrounded by 40,000 acres of forest. Absolutely stunning!
A Legacy Wedding
I has the pleasure of photographing another wedding for this family a couple of years ago. When I was asked to fly to NY for the other daughter’s wedding, I was thrilled. What an honor! Although it was a smaller wedding, the location made up for it in grandeur. The Mohonk Mountain House wedding was only 25 people. Because of the size, my assistant and I were truly made to feel like we were part of the family. We had an amazing time!
Lauren and Kenny chose to get married in the garden of the resort. The Hudson Valley was a majestic backdrop. It was a clear and perfect fall day in upstate New York. The ceremony was performed by a local officiant. It was just perfect. After the wedding, all of the guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the massive porch, that over looked the glacial lake. We returned to a private room for the wedding dinner. Which followed with dancing. Next was a very special father daughter dance. Edelweiss which was sung by her father. So emotional.
I remember from the first wedding the whole family are amazing dancers. So it was so fun watching them again. I waited for the perfect moment to take the couple away to capture a stunning sunset overlooking the Hudson Valley. It was worth it just for the applause the newlyweds received as the sun rested into the valley.
Floating in the sky!
Because there were so many options that the property has to offer we decided to take additional photos the following day. It was worth it! The resort has so many picturesque spots, it was hard to limit the ones with the perfect backdrop. Of course, the glacial lake had to be one. Of course, because of its serene beauty and the mountain house in the backdrop. Sky top was another. It is the top of the mountain and is the crown of Mohonk. We were chauffeured up. As we approached in the early morning hours, the valley was covered with clouds. It was so magical. Truly breathtaking!
